By the end of class students will analyze several examples of portrait photographs and recognize elements of successful portraits as evidenced by comparing and contrasting the photos below as well as ranking them in the order of most successful to least. (Also, let's practice our recently learned touch up skills by improving photos C and D.)

I believe C is the best portrait photo because it has a clearly defined subject and background, since the background has dull colors and is only semi busy the woman sticks out. photograph B isnt a very good photo at all, I believe its not a good photo because the subject isnt making eye contact with the photographer. Along with his obvious blending in with the background so its not very defined. Also the subject has bad lighting. Photograph A is a decent photo. It has some things done good like its lighting but yet it also has some bad things going on. It isnt very focused, its focused but not to that well. Also the person in the photo doesnt have eye contact with the person taking the photo. Photo D is an okay photo, it is not very focused, and the lighting is very harsh on the right side of the persons face.
