By the end of class students will be familiar several varieties of lenses as evidenced by finding definitions of the following terms:
- Field of View: angle of view or the amount of space that is visible through the camera lens
- Normal lens: lens that resembles the natural view of a human under normal viewing conditions
- Wide lens: a lens in which the focal length is shorter than that of the normal lens
- Telephoto lens: the physical length of the lens in shorter then the focal length
- Fisheye lens: a camera lens that curves out from the camera and gives the view of an extremely wide area
- Macro lens: a lens used to bring items very close to the lens into focus
- Prime lens: a lens in which the focal length is fixed rather than the zoom lens
- Zoom lens: a lens whose focal length can be changed in order to adjust the size of an image
